Artist Statement
As a Contemporary Art photographer, Read Brown is captivated by the decisive moments that unfold in both nature and human interaction. These moments offer intriguing perspectives, allowing for exploration of art and detail found in everyday experiences, elements, and objectsWhether it’s a grand landscape or the shocking detail of an avocado pit, Read is driven by the compositions that constantly catch her eye and her need to capture complex and unique perspectives. She finds that the composition is always revealing itself. Always enjoying the unexpected moment or detail. From a simple lawn sprinkler to a crow bathing in a fountain, each object becomes an invitation to explore new textures, colors, and compositions.
One aspect of Read's creative process is digital manipulation. transforming images to resemble paintings by experimenting with saturation and contrast levels, which can dramatically alter shadows and highlights. This process is both enjoyable and transformative, offering a new way to perceive the world. Traveling also took her to Mexico, where she was struck by the resilience and warmth of its people, as well as Cuba, with its unique blend of colonial architecture, traditions, and where music and art surrounded her.Through this travel experience, Read developed a deep appreciation for the ways in which different cultures intersect and inform one another. This perspective is reflected in her work, which often incorporates elements of global artistry and storytelling.
